INEC Approves Timetable and Activities for Bye-Elections and Re-Run Elections

In a recent development, the Election Commission has given the green light to the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for conducting bye-elections arising from the resignation or demise of Members of the National and State Houses of Assembly. Notably, these vacancies were declared by key Presiding Officers, including the Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Speakers of State Houses of Assembly.

These vacancies span two Senatorial Districts, four Federal Constituencies, and three State Constituencies, encompassing nine States of the Federation.

In addition, the Commission is overseeing re-run elections resulting from the 2023 General Election, as mandated by various Election Petition Appeal Tribunals. A total of 35 Constituencies are impacted by these Court-ordered elections, with three covering entire constituencies and others involving specific Polling Units.

Mark your calendars, as both sets of elections are scheduled to unfold simultaneously in all affected constituencies on Saturday, 3rd February 2024.

For detailed information, the Timetable for the elections and comprehensive delimitation data, including registration areas, polling unit names, the number of registered voters, and PVCs collected, have been made available on the Commission's website and social media platforms. This information serves as a crucial guide for political parties and candidates, as well as for public awareness.

The Election Commission strongly emphasizes the importance of parties and candidates adhering strictly to the specified timelines to ensure the smooth and orderly conduct of these crucial elections.
